What is Myofascial Release or MFR for short?

Fascia is the connective tissue within and throughout our whole body. It surrounds all organs, bones and muscles. This complex structure is surrounded and perfused with liquid which lubricates the gliding movement of the fibers as we move and stretch. With trauma, cumulative stress, surgery, emotional upset, and inefficient movement patterns, this liquid can thicken and solidify creating congestion and adhesions that can cause pain.

Myofascial Release applies gentle pressure to the fascia to create change by rehydrating the tissue, removing adhesions, and restoring the slide and glide that the tissue needs to be healthy. The treatment follows the cues given by the body and feedback from the patient. Again, the approach is gentle avoiding deep tissue work that can increase pain, bruise tissue, and create tension. You are dressed throughout the session and comfortably resting on a massage table with bolsters and pillows to ensure your comfort.
